Beat the Backlist is back for 2022, and I’m ready to tackle all those unread books from years gone by!
For the uninitiated, Beat the Backlist is a yearly reading challenge run by Austine Decker with just one simple goal – to read as many books as possible from your TBR, provided they were published prior to the year of the challenge. This means anything 2021 and earlier is fair game this year!
There’s prompts and bingo cards if you’re into that kind of thing, as well as a reading tracker spreadsheet, and groups set up in places like StoryGraph and GoodReads. For more info, be sure to head to the Beat the Backlist website HERE.

Given that 2020 has somehow been both the shortest and longest year in recorded history, it’s both surprising and somewhat of a relief that the new Beat the Backlist challenge is almost here!
I recently did a tour of my TBR on my BookTube, and going through it (as well as unhauling a few long-termers I know I won’t get to) has made me even more determined to truly beat that backlist in 2021.

So I’ve just finished up Tome Topple (wrap up video and blog post coming soon) and I’ve signed up for two more readathons in June (again, info coming soon!) but I’ve also just chucked my name down for this year’s Beat the Backlist.
This one runs all year and it’s the perfect opportunity to clear out my TBR shelves – anything published up to last year counts, as well as re-reads! The good thing is I can go back and add the books I read earlier this year, and they can still count towards my total.
